The other day, we went to check our condo in Orlando. Our renter told us that she has problem with the door knob. It came loose. She is young and single so; we checked on her and changed the door knob. She was a happy camper. Anyway, since we were already there, I told my husband that I will take advantage to use the swimming pool. 

Not my lucky day because when we get the area, people are there cleaning the pool. Not only that, they landscape the surrounding area. A van was parked on the side loaded with pool supplies. In the Middle of a Nasty Weather

We travel a lot so; this is not the first time that we encountered bad storm on the road. One time, we traveled to Miami during Storm Fay to pick up someone in Miami airport. It was like going into a cave in total darkness with tornado warning in effect. It was not a smart decision you know but, circumstances are the factors and we had to go.

There was also another incident when my schedule for "fingerprint" processing was in Metaire, Louisiana. It was too late to re-schedule and it was the hurricane season. My father in law was worried  so; he told us to travel the day before the storm hits Louisiana. It was a smart decision. That was the time when an EF3 tornado struck the north part of the Magee, Mississippi. The tornado destroyed 60 homes, 25 injuries and there were no fatalities. The tornado damaged the water treatment plant and interrupted the services of the town.

Yesterday, we were traveling SR 528 and the weather changes abruptly. We saw a brush fire on 528 near the first toll booth after the airport. We were traveling home towards the beachline and the clouds are showing signs of a nasty storm. In a matter of minutes, the rain was blinding us, hails were falling on the windshield, drivers were stopping on the side of the road and it was totally dark.

Hubby decided not to stop. We were driving at minimal speed watching our distance to the car ahead. It was less than an hour drive from Orlando to Cocoa but, with the storm and driving on 528, dang ... it was not easy! We arrived safely, thank God.

Nasty Weeds on the Backyard

I was trying to get ready for gardening when I saw these beauties on the backyard. Armed with lawn spot weeder, I definitely make sure that these weeds will not thrive. But, take a closer look first:

After taking these photos, I took them out. Giving way for a healthy vegetable and flower garden soon.

Try to see what's on your yard and if you see some flowers, zoom your camera and take a snap. You will definitely appreciate their beauty.

This one below is really pretty. It looks like the plant my mom had one time.

The weed below, I don't like it at all. It thrive so fast but, easy to uproot though. With this weed around, it can kill your good grass so; you better take it out fast!

You probably have this in your backyard right now. This is common and get rid of it ASAP.

Happy and Content with Life

Hubby is planning to sell the big condo. We are still waiting for the papers and maybe, it will be in the market by next month. Real estate finally bounced back from rock bottom prices. We bought the condo almost three years ago and we lived in it for about a year. When we bought our house here in the beach area, we have it rented to a nice couple. We plan to inform them before we sign the contract. We love the condo but, since we saw some good properties right where we are now, we plan to buy a new property here.

We love living here in the coastal area and away from the hustle and bustle life in the city. Here, we can hear the birds chirping at the backyard, traffic is minimal; beach is nearby, near to NASA's Kennedy Space Center, and just a laid-back life.

Check out the two people fishing. This is a great day to spend an afternoon in the Indian River Lagoon.

We love to drive along the coast and if we are bored, we just head to the beach or just drive around the neighborhood and check out some great restaurants in the area. Boat Passing by the Draw Bridge

We love our place. We live nearby Cocoa Beach, NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Indian River Lagoon, Banana River and the Port Canaveral Cruise Ship Terminal. If we crave for sea foods, there are numerous restaurant's to choose from. Sunrise and sunset ... we have beautiful places to watch them here. The photo below was taken along Indian River lagoon. We love to drive along the river banks to see the boats, or watch wild gators along the canal.

My husband and I love to watch movies in the movie theater. We go for 3D because it is more thrilling to watch. At home, we have movie night complete with popcorn and some goodies to munch. Mardi Gras Beads and Philippine Flag

Beads from Mardi Gras and a Philippine flag, accessories that we have in the car. Every time people look at me were trying to analyze my nationality but, when I caught themstaring at the flag, I presumed they knew instantly.

Carnation : Official Flower for Mother's Day Celebration

All women were given a carnation flower after the mass yesterday for Mother's Day celebration. Two year's in a row, I noticed that among the many flowers available, they choose carnation. I made some research and found out that carnation is a "flower of love".

Tracing from the time of Greek and Romans, Carnation holds significance in history. For Christians, it was believed that when Mary wept for Jesus as he carried the cross, the first carnation bloomed on earth. Carnation has many shades such as pale pink, peach, red, yellow, white, purple, and green. What I got here is white, so pure. 

Carnation has meanings such as fascination, distinction, and love. The different colors expresses different messages as well. Example, the light red carnation would mean admiration; the dark red would mean deeper love and affection. White carnations symbolizes purity and luck; the pink carnation is a sign of gratitude. 

Carnations became the official flower for Mother's Day starting in the early 20th century. I didn't know this at all. That is probably the reason why the church give out carnations and thus, remain a favorite flower of choice.  The carnation flower indeed is significant and have an alluring beauty worthy of appreciation..

Ritchie Valens: La Bamba

Have you seen the movie La Bamba? Whenever I saw a microphone such as the MXL, it always reminds me of  the movie about Ritchie Valens. The poster of the movie shows him singing using a big microphone.  Another poster shows him holding a guitar. If in case you didn't know him, he was a rock n roll pioneer and a famous singer in the late 50's. Donna and La Bamba are two of his popular songs. He died in a plane crash at the age of 23. He could have been 72 years old yesterday.

That classic movie is one of my favorites because the story is not only musical but, a love story as well. It is an inspiring movie about dreams and love of family too. If you haven't seen it, I recommend that you should watch the movie La Bamba starring Lou Diamond Phillips. 

Veteran's Memorial Park in Merritt island

The Veteran's Memorial Park consists of substantial grounds to which I took some photos posted below. This place has also a Veteran's Memorial Center and a Hall of Honor: The Hall of Honor is located in the entrance foyer of the Veteran's Memorial Center. There are memorial photographs of veterans and that includes the Medal of Honor recipients. Displayed are the colors of many of the participating Veterans Organizations as well. We never get the chance to visit the museum which highlights some Museum military artifacts. I told my husband that we just explore the Veterans Memorial Plaza. It was a gorgeous day and that's me with the symbol of one of the heroes of war, the dogs.

But there, both of you are, ready to stand and fight prepared to die for me. Both of you have fought before, and both of you will fight again for someone neither one of you know. I got a sudden sadness reading the message. In wars, lives lost to give this FREEDOM that we have today.

The park is huge and well planned. Each area has its own place for reverence. Very clean and well-managed.

They have white benches with markings in it.

They have one tank on display and two helicopters. My husband works for few years in the army in Vietnam and he rode on this type of helicopter.

The CAPTION says: In honor of those that served in harms way Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.

One caption has this message: "During our nations military history, ten of thousands of war dogs served during WW1, WW11, Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. They continue to serve around the world. American war dogs have a legendary history of bravery and courage on foreign fields of battle saving countless American lives."

The soldier statue on the side of the picture below is THE DIXIE DOUGHBOY.  The sign has this caption: There were 33, 331 soldiers from Florida who served in World War 1. Many served in the 31st infantry division. A division composed of soldiers primarily from Georgia, Alabama and Florida, nicknamed The "Dixie Division".

The monument stands in memory of all who served in this great war 1917-1918.

The statue was sculpted by CHARLES L. SMITH.

The Plan for a Europe Vacation

My husband lived in Europe for about 15 years and he told me great stories on the places that he had been. One of the amazing destinations that he wanted me to see is Barcelona, Spain. We were supposed to go to Europe last October for two-week's vacation. Everything was booked including hotel and airline tickets but, circumstances made us to decide to cancel the trip and re-schedule the vacation to this year.

Currently, his daughter is living in Barcelona and before she could come visit us here in the US, we really like to visit her in Spain first. We also plan to go to Germany, Rome and France so; I checked the prices in FlightNetwork from Rome to Barcelona. Beauty in Spring: Blooms in my Garden

You really don't need to look too far to see the signs of spring. Go to your yard, look around your neighborhood or explore the nearest park in your area and for sure, you will see a budding tree, feel the warm weather and appreciate the flowers in bloom.

Today, I checked my garden and I couldn't help but, admire the pretty flowers in bloom.

Few of these plants are wild and they hibernate from the winter. Springtime is their moment for regrowth and my eyes are feasting in admiration of their radiance in my garden.

I love Spring months which are March, April and May but, this fact may differ from different countries. In my country, we have no spring season. We are so lucky that flowers bloom all year round.

The start of spring is not always determined by a fixed date. Accordingly, spring has biological indicators such as the blossoming of plant and the activities of animals.  Even the special smell of soil is also an indicator.

Spring vary according to the climate as well as the specific weather of a particular year.

I just learned this term ---> ecological reckoning which identify pre-spring season that is between the hibernal which is winter and vernal  which is spring seasons. 

This season supposedly the only time that the hardiest flowers are in bloom sometimes, while there is still some snow cover on the ground. Well, here in Florida, I doubt that we have this type of flower. We have no snow here that's why.

Anyway, winter in Florida is my favorite time of the year. This is the last month for spring which means, summer is fast approaching and I am not too thrilled about it. How about you? What time of the year is your favorite?
